Our Mastery-Based Learning and Grading System

We at Tutor Time Learning Center grade to communicate the progress of our students with families and so that teachers can track a student's understanding of specific learning goals. We grade so that we can all monitor progress and support each student's growth as an individual learner.

Mastery-Based Grading

Tutor Time believes that grades should reflect what students know and can do. We seek to create an environment that encourages students to make mistakes and embrace their mistakes as learning opportunities.  Our mastery-based learning and four-point grading system supports the learning values by making our learning goals clear and assessing student's progress throughout the journey of meeting those goals.

What does this look like in the classroom:

Level 1 -Below Level- At this level the student  meets few expectations for skills and understanding. Students receive one-on-one support to meet the standards-based grading criteria.

Level 2- Approaching Level- At this level the student meets  some expectations for skills and understanding  He/she will receive more practice and independent work from the teacher to meet standards-based grading criteria.

Level 3-Meeting Level-At this particular level the student meets expectations for skills and understanding. The student can move on to the next learning objective.

Level 4-Exceeding  Level- At this level the student exceeds expectations for skills and understanding. He/she will advance to a more challenging learning objective.
